Oral strip for instant pain relief from burns caused by eating hot food

Before I talk about somebody else let me tell you that even I burn my tongue every time from hot soup. I don’t know what is wrong with ‘me and soup’ combination. Anyway, if you are also amongst those who usually can’t wait for the food to get normal in temperature and instead burn their mouth, then there’s good news for you.

American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists has made a new self dissolving oral strip that gives relief to the burnt part of your mouth. It sticks onto the burnt area without interfering into your daily activities and gives relief in the pain while promoting the healing process.

“We found these strips to be non-toxic, which has huge potential for anyone who burns their mouth while eating and drinking hot foods–and that’s just about everyone,” said McConville. “The strips look and behave similar to breath freshening strips that you might find at your local drugstore.”

Now based at the University of New Mexico, McConville, and his team, will explore creating a stronger oral strip to treat more severe burns lasting longer than 2-3 days. The next step in furthering their research will be to test the strips in humans and experiment with taste-masking.
