Mankind has evolved so many things for his entertainment that there is not a corner of the earth which does not have its own form of art to entertain its people. Every country or state has its own regional sports and other form of arts to engage its people and give them that needed adrenaline-rush. Now if you though that surfing on rough waters or doing deep underwater snorkelling is risky then you haven’t seen what Pakistan indulges in. Pakistan has its own form or bull fights which include bulls, board, dirt and a very important element-risk. These are called Bovine races and are very famous in the Asian country.
Whenever Pakistan holds its bull races, thousands of people gather around to experience the fear and the push. Due to the thrills involved, the rural areas which hold it attract large mass of people. Imagine a bull running on vast lands and people hooting and on top of all this, you have a man riding a board on a dirty track to guide these crazy animals. Usually held for farmers and landlords of the surrounding area, people participate to show-off their fast and strong bulls to others.
Pakistani men while riding the oxen have their lives hanging by a thread as the boards are dragged by the ferocious animals. The participants have to balance through the 350 meter race course and keep the oxen under their command. They have to shout and beat the oxen to keep them in control. These animals have to be guided through a couple of poles which are placed 10 meters apart, in order to finish the race. The competitor is disqualified if the bulls don’t come through the poles or even if the participant falls off the board.
It’s a 50-year old traditional game which still manages to bring together a collection of 40-50 pairs of bulls. The prize given to the winner is of $1000 and it’s needless to say that its one of the most daring of all sports in the world.
