This is one of the most cool modern day gadget that I have seen or heard about in the last few months. Hang on a second am I jumping the gun too early on the Asus PadFone, labelling it as “The Coolest Gadget of this Year”? In a way yes in a way no; I’m a bit confused about the PadFone because on first look the proposition of this uber’ tech mobile gadget intrigued me but after that the emotions settled down a bit and I had an insight into the good and not so appealing features of this niche offering by Asus revealed at the press conference at Computex 2011. The prototype is still in its unpolished stage with Asus only showing a few demo videos and a prototype device that was shown off to the media.
Now what exactly is PadFone? I think by the pictures above and the name intellectually profound technology enthusiast might have got an idea. Yes hose you are right it is a Tablet PC that has a smartphone tucked inside its womb so to speak. One can insert the smartphone that is 4.3 inch on the back side of 10.1 inch tablet dock. Powered by the latest Android Ice Cream Sandwich this duo of smartphone and tablet complement each other well with the smartphone deriving its charge for the battery from the big brother and in turn the tablet synchronizes some of its basic functions like 3G connectivity from the smartphone. Talking about some of the stand out features of this never before heard duo, there is a shared SIM card, two batteries, single hard drive, Qualcomm processor and much more.
Although Asus has not uttered much about other specifications of the PadFone but still we can expect super smooth internet browsing, streaming of HD videos, playing interactive video games, ultra cool apps and much more. The good thing about the dual device is that there is no need to switch off one if you are using another one, you simply will be able to continue in case you insert the smartphone inside the tablet’s dock. In case you receive a call it can be attended via a Bluetooth headset or by sliding out the phone from its nest. The gadget is expected to be released in Q4, 2011 with a price tag of $800-1000 so let’s hear from you about the PadFone in the comments section. As for me, I’m still confused about the prospects of Asus PadFone so pals shower your views, I need them desperately.
