Have you ever heard of furniture gadget before? The probability of your reply would be high as no. Well then a team led by MIT professor Sheila Kennedy has launched SOFT ROCKERS recently- that is very stylish furniture as well as a gadget to recharge your electronic items. It is an outdoor piece that can be placed in the lawn or garden area. Tech lovers and even the greenly people would love to use such kind of device.
One can actually relax and lay back on this furniture cum gadget- Soft Rockers. While chatting with your friends or listening to your favorite track you can yourself with human power of balance create an interactive 1.5 axis 35 watt solar tracking system. This is all about positional advantage via the surrounding itself in a very lively mode.
The project has devised soft power electronics which charge 12 ampere hour battery plus store solar energy gathered during the sunny day. One has nothing to do much just put your weight on furniture in play with an interactive; the real time energy-harvesting feedback loop senses how you orient the Rocker to the sun. The loops lights at night which surely can lit the ambience in a playful and revivifying manner.
These charging stations are utilizing clean energy in the whole process of providing energy, way smarter than square infrastructures at home. It is state-of-the-art for the viewers and users both. You can charge and run any USB device it can be cell phones, speakers and so on.
As you can see in the pictures the design looks like a leaf loop. The device discovers the potential of standard softwood panels which can be mass customized to adjust to the latitude and sun angle of any site using parametric design software and automated fabrication with a lightweight Kuka robotic arm.
The technology is a combination of both hi and low tech design strategies. Like it produces electricity unlike any other normal furniture engages the body but works like furniture ‘by hand’. It mixes sun tracking and social dynamics; it can be kept as site specific object and made up of flexible soft wood.
The one who have designed it believes that- The SOFT Rocker blurs distinctions between pleasure and work and recasts power generation as an integrated and distributed public activity rather than a centralized, singular off-site project of ‘engineering’.
