It is definitely not one of those four-legged creatures resting in your rooms. It is a design that defies the clichés that we use so confidently in our houses.
Designed by Zaha Hadid for Sawaya & Moroni, this Z-Chair was presented in Milan. Made of polished stainless steel is the essence of the research done by Zaha Hadid Architects over the span of three decades. If we look at it, it’s a simple zigzag design. But, to a person with the appreciation of art, it would be more than that. It would be a piece personifying elegance. Measuring920mm in length, 880mm in height and 610 mm in depth, the chair’s design speaks volumes about the creativity that has gone into it. The shape of the chair is geometric yet there is something irresistibly artistic about it. This design is sure to render an artistic flow to your home décor or even outdoors for that matter.
According to the description the chair not only boasts of a good design, but also has been made while giving equal attention to comfort, function and utility. As the description from the makers say, “A simple three-dimensional gesture zigzags in the space as part of the continued discourse between form and function, elegance and utility, differentiation and continuity”. But, may be a person demonstrating the sitting part would have been better for everyone looking to draw out conclusions about the intensity of comfort it offers. It’s a limited edition with 24 pieces. Irrespective of its wonderful design and the claims about its function and utility, I would buy this chair to decorate my outdoors or place it in a quiet corner of my room just to add character and lines to my bland space rather than use it to sit. It seems so delicate despite its steel make. What would you do with it?
